Ukraine is capturing a great amount of attention as an attractive outsourcing destination offering skilled IT specialists and high-quality services. The number of IT specialists working in the outsourcing industry reached more than 25,000 people and more than 1,000 outsourcing companies operate all over Ukraine.

There are six main outsourcing centers in Ukraine: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Crimea cluster (includes cities Kherson, Mykolaiv, Simferopol, and Sevastopol) in terms of the number of outsourcing companies and number of IT specialists involved in IT outsourcing.

We continue our series of posts about the largest outsourcing centers in Ukraine and today’s post is devoted to Odesa region.

Odesa Region

Odesa is the fourth largest city in Ukraine with population of more than 1 million people. The city is a major seaport located on the North West shore of the Black Sea and the tourist Mecca. Hosting two important ports, Odesa is the intersection of the economic centers of Europe and the Middle East.

Odesa region is one of the largest software development centers in Ukraine. Many outsourcing companies operate here and have their R&D offices in Odesa.

Being home for a number of higher educational institutions, the city is considered to be a large education center. There are 20 universities there, 5 of which prepare highly skilled specialists in computer technologies. Currently more than 1,000 IT specialists are working in Odesa’s IT outsourcing sector.

Odesa has smaller pool of IT workforce comparatively to other outsourcing centers – Kyiv, Kharkiv, or Lviv, but the salaries and life rate are lower here respectively. The prices and cost of living in the city are 20-25% lower than in Kyiv.

Odesa has convenient and well-developed airline and train connections. Odesa’s airport operates both domestic and international flights and offers transit flights from the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East to Odesa. The airlines operating here are Air Baltic, Austrian Airlines, El Al, Georgian National Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Aerosvit Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, Malev Hungarian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Czech Airlines, and others.

Odesa, popular tourist center, is the promising region with high level of economic development offering a lot of business opportunities.

In 2009, Focus Magazine included city Odesa to the ranking European Cities and Regions of the Future 2010/2011 and ranked it the 4th in the TOP 5 Large Cities in the category Cost Effectiveness, and 4th in the TOP 5 Large Cities in the category Business Friendly.
